Kelsey "Chipman" Stringer
Kelsey 'Chipman' Stringer attended Washburn Rural High School from 2002-2006. She was a multi-sport athlete and letterwinner competing on the volleyball and basketball teams. She was part of Washburn Rural High School's first ever 6A volleyball state championship team. This team was inducted into the Washburn Rural High School Hall of Fame in 2017. Kelsey earned Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year as well as 6A State Player of the Year honors. She was a 6A All-State First Team selection in volleyball in 2004 and 2005, with honorable mention honors in 2003. She was also named to the 6A All-State Team in basketball and was part of the 6A state championship runner-up team in 2003. She received multiple all-city and all-league honors in volleyball and basketball. Kelsey holds a 6A volleyball attacking efficiency record in 2004 (.540) and 2005 (.479). She was named Top 5 Best of the Best in Volleyball for Topeka/Shawnee County and a part of the Top 125 athletes in Topeka/Shawnee Country history. She was inducted into the Kansas Volleyball Association Hall of Fame in 2022.
She attended Kansas State University on a full-ride volleyball scholarship. She competed for this university in the 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 seasons. She was a 4-year starter and voted team captain during her career. She set numerous blocking records that still stand today. She holds the record for the most career blocks by any single player in the history of the program (518). She also holds the record for career block assists (463) and career solo-blocks (55). She has the most blocks ever in a five-game match (15) as well as the most solo blocks three-game match (4). Her 15 blocks against Colorado in 2006 also set a Big 12 Conference record that still stands today. She is in the top 3 at Kansas State for career hitting percentage efficiency, averaging .329. She was an All-Big 12 Conference selection in 2009. She has also received multiple MVP and all-tournament team designations as well as All-District Academic First Team honors. She was named as the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on multiple occasions. She was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was very involved in their community outreach programs. She graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Life-Sciences/Pre-Medicine. She continues to stay connected to Kansas State University volleyball today as a play-by-play broadcasting analyst for their televised matches.
Kelsey is a practicing board-certified family nurse practitioner. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Creighton University with her accelerated-BSN degree in 2012 and has spent time working in emergency and trauma departments as a registered nurse and as a nurse practitioner. Her Master of Science in Nursing degree was completed in 2016 from Washburn University and she completed this degree with Summa Cum Laude honors. She left her career in the emergency department to pursue her passion of functional medicine in 2019. On January 1, 2024, Kelsey, in partnership with another nurse practitioner, opened her own health and wellness clinic in Topeka, Kansas called Epic Integrative Wellness.
She comes from a sports-centered family with her father, Bob, mother, Carol, and younger brother Bobby all spending their time around athletics. Bobby also attended Washburn Rural High School and played on the basketball team. Her father, Bob Chipman, was head men's basketball coach at Washburn University for 38 seasons. He is one the winningest coaches in the history of men's college basketball at all levels. He was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, among others. She is married to her best friend, Nick Stringer, a fellow Topekan born and raised and former All-Big 12 offensive lineman at Kansas State University. They have three children, Everett, Wyatt, and Beau, who all attend school in Washburn Rural district.
