This afternoon we had our Book Blast assembly. Every single student received at least 1 brand new book, thanks to all of your donations. Some students even received up to 10 books! Seeing their smiles opening their books was almost like Christmas morning! We hope they all have a wonderful spring break with their new books!
As a culminating event for our 6th grade book club, Mrs. Weber and Mrs. Duncan took the book club members on a field trip to T&SCPL. While we were there we visited the Level 2 Tech Center and tried our hand at recording audio and video, saw the 3D printer in action that is free to use, the Topeka Room where they were able to see Mrs. Duncan's and Mrs. Weber's high school yearbook photos, the check-in machine that was very impressive, as well as a quick demo on Hoopla and ScienceFlix. We ended the tour with a stop at the cafe to enjoy a cold drink and a scrumptious cookie!
The 6th graders have been learning about thermal energy, and the culminating activity was a STEM project where they had to design, build and test the most effective and cost-efficient insulating cup. This week we got to celebrate and crown the winners from each class, and the overall winner for the whole grade! Way to go, ladies!!
