Dr. Nicole (Perkuhn) Hogan
Nicole (Perkuhn) Hogan graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 2006. After graduating in 2006, Nicole double-majored at Washburn University earning her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Management in 2011. Nicole also earned her Associate of Science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from Washburn in 2011 and graduated with her Leadership Certificate. Following her undergraduate career at Washburn, Nicole pursued her passion in healthcare to become a physical therapist. Nicole was accepted into Wichita State University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program where she graduated in 2015. Dr. Nicole (Perkuhn) Hogan served as Wichita State University's Doctor of Physical Therapy Student Marshall for the College of Health Professions during graduation and was the recipient of Wichita State University's Susan C. Tork Distinguished Student Award in recognition of outstanding service to the department, the community, and the profession.
Dr. Hogan's involvement throughout her high school, undergraduate, and graduate collegiate careers were extensive. At Washburn Rural High School, athletically, Nicole competed in four sports (tennis, golf, basketball, and softball) during her four years there. A decorated athlete, she was named to the Freshman Basketball All Tournament Team, named WIBW's High School Athlete of the Week (2004), received Softball All City & All Centennial League 1st Team Honors (2004-2006), earned Softball District and 1st Team All-State Honors (2006), named Softball Team Captain (2005 & 2006), recognized as WRHS Softball Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational Player (2004), and named Best Offensive Player (2006). Nicole lettered in softball all four years, earning Conference and District Championships in 2002 and 2006, and appearing in two state tournaments (2002 & 2006). In 2005, Nicole was a member of the WRHS Girl's Golf State Championship Team and in 2006 was named Washburn Rural High School's Female Most Inspirational Athlete. Outside of athletics, Nicole was a member of the Honor Roll, National Honors Society (2004-2006), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Interact, and involved in the vocal music program (Freshman Choir, Ambiance & Chorale) at Washburn Rural. To round off her high school career, Nicole was the female recipient of the McElroy Award in 2006, which recognizes achievement in academics, extra-curricular activities, and character.
At Washburn University, Nicole's athletic and University involvement remained vast. She was a member of the Washburn University Softball Team where she was named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll 2007-2010, the Dean and Presidential Honor Rolls, and was the recipient of the 2009-2010 Washburn Athletics Scholar Athlete Award. In addition to her involvement on the field, Nicole was highly involved off the field. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity where she held the highest GPA and received the Empowered Award (2007-2008). Nicole was also a Washburn University Student Ambassador, a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a member of the Leadership Institute, President of Washburn Sales and Marketing Executives, on the School of Business Dean's Student Advisory Council, President of the Washburn University Physical Therapist Assistant Class of 2011, and Special Events Director of the Washburn University Student Government Association.
Nicole was involved in several organizations including, but not limited to, Washburn Collegiate 4-H, Bod Squad, Christian Challenge, Top Hat Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta, Mu Kappa Tau, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Mortar Board.
She held various leadership positions in the above organizations during her time at Washburn, including Vice-President for NONOSO Senior Women's Honor Society where she received the Sophomore Woman of the Year Award in 2008. Nicole was dedicated to serving Washburn University and still is committed to giving back to others and the community. She was named Washburn University's Homecoming Queen in 2009.
After attending Washburn, Nicole attended Wichita State University where she earned her doctorate as a Physical Therapist. Dr. Hogan's passion for being involved and helping others remained evident during graduate school. She was the Kansas Physical Therapy Association Student Representative for Wichita State University's DPT Class of 2015, an Anatomy Graduate Teaching Assistant for Wichita State's Doctor of Physical Therapy and Dental Hygiene programs, Kansas Core Ambassador for the American Physical Therapy Association, Chairman for the Kansas Physical Therapy Association Student Special Interest Group, and sat on several committees of the American Physical Therapy Association Student Assembly Board of Directors.
Dr. Hogan began her career at The Center, official orthopaedic medical providers for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs. While in Colorado Springs, Dr. Hogan volunteered for various community sports outreach programs, developed The Center's physical therapist mentorship program, developed a business plan for community outreach programs for softball, tennis, and golf injury prevention, specifically focused on the female athlete, and an aquatic therapy program, participated in community injury prevention education programs, and developed marketing plans and initiatives for the Sports Performance Enhancement community outreach programs.
In June 2016, Dr. Hogan moved back to Kansas where she accepted a pediatric sports physical therapist position at Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Center in Kansas City. She is currently located at Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Center at Village West, which is also the training home of Sporting Kansas City, U.S. Soccer, and the U.S. Soccer National Coaching Education Center in the Compass Minerals National Performance Center. This is Dr. Hogan's fifth year as a sports physical therapist at Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Center in Kansas City where she specializes in treating the softball and overhead athlete. Dr. Hogan has given several professional presentations, written various articles, continues to participate in community injury prevention education programs, and is on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. She is also a member of the Midwest Sports Science, Athletes Performance, Nutrition, and Medical Research committee, the KC Physical Activity Plan Healthcare (Sports Sector) committee, and an Advisor for the Kansas Physical Therapy Association Student Special Interest Group. Dr. Hogan is transforming lives by optimizing movement and health and continues to represent, promote, and advocate for the profession of physical therapy to help move it forward.
In addition to Dr. Hogan's academic, athletic, and professional accolades, she was a camp counselor at Kanakuk Christian Sports Camp and was/still is very involved in the 4-H program, which provides children with community, mentors, and learning opportunities to develop the skills they need to create positive change in their lives and communities. Dr. Hogan was involved in the Shawnee County 4-H program for 13 years. She received the Shawnee County 4-H Key Award in 2006. Dr. Hogan continues to volunteer in the 4-H program empowering young people with the skills they need to lead for a lifetime. Dr. Nicole (Perkuhn) Hogan is married to Brent Hogan and they have three children: a daughter, Kenzie, and two sons, Benjamin and Daniel. They currently reside in Olathe, KS. Nicole is the daughter of Thomas (1978 WRHS graduate) and Karen Perkuhn. Sister, Megan (Perkuhn) Smith (2012) and brother, Drew Perkuhn (2014), are also both WRHS graduates.
