Brigadier General Michael Flowers

BG Retired Mike Flowers is an Air Force BRAT who has journeyed the world. He attended eighth and ninth grades at Jay Shideler Junior High School where he played football. He went on to Washburn Rural High School where he was one of a select few Sophomores to receive a varsity letter in football. The following year, he was selected as a Biology Lab Assistant, played varsity football (league honorable mention), and also wrestled on the varsity wrestling team. He attended the University of Kansas where he earned his bachelor's degree and was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1977. He also earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg State College and is an Army War College Graduate. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of DigiFlight, Inc.

BG (Ret) Flowers went on to serve over 30 years in various command and staff positions in Artillery, Armor, and Aviation (he is rated in 6 helicopters) in the Army. He has deployed to Grenada, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kosovo. His last assignment was as Commander of the Joint Prisoner of War/Missing in Action where his teams worked world-wide to recover and identify missing Americans from our previous wars and conflicts. He also led the Army's Center for Army Leadership during critical Leader Development Studies and doctrinal change and is a published author: "Improving Strategic Leadership," Military Review, March-April 2004.

Mike is dedicated to serving and giving back to the community. He has served on the Army Aviation Association of America Scholarship Board of Governors since 2008; where he served as Fundraising Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and now as Vice President. He has served as a Senior Advisor to the University of Kansas Veteran's Alumni Association and currently serves on the University of Kansas Alumni Association's National Board. He continues to provide mentoring and counseling on leadership to junior executives and Military Officers.

Mike and his wife Lesia Tyo reside in Apollo Beach, Florida. They have three daughters: Lea Flowers Timothee, Noelle Curry Pohl, and Nedra Curry Rindom, and seven grandchildren: four girls, and three boys.
