Jerry Beardslee
In 1976, Beardslee and his wife, Mary Lou, accepted teaching positions in the Auburn-Washburn schools. From 1976-1980, Beardslee taught Physical Education at Pauline South Middle School and was an assistant track coach at Washburn Rural High School (1977-1982). In 1980, Beardslee moved to WR High School as a teacher of Physical Education and Health. He also administered the school's driver's education program for over 30 years. In 1981, Beardslee was promoted to Head Track and Field Coach for both boys and girls and continued in that capacity for 31 years. During Beardslee's 31 year tenure as Head Track Coach, the boys' track team won 2 State Championships and were 2nd place and 3rd place finishers as well. The boys' teams also won 11 Centennial League Championships. The girls' had one 3rd place finish at the State Track Meet and won 4 Centennial League Championships. Beardslee also was an assistant football coach for 31 years. During his association with the football program, Rural won 3 State Football Championships and they captured 9 Centennial League Championships.
