Eleven-year-old Emma Kuhlman of Topeka is one of three northeast Kansas winners in the 2021 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest. Emma’s poster was also selected as the statewide winner in her age group. The Kansas Department of Transportation and other traffic safety organizations sponsor the contest each year.

Emma is the daughter of Rick Kuhlman and Stephany Kuhlman.

Contest winners receive a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas. Statewide winners also receive a Kindle Fire Tablet, $50 Amazon gift card, movie passes and $200 for their school.

A total of 638 children, ages 5 to 13, from across Kansas took the time to think about safety and participated in the contest. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.

For more information, click HERE for KDOT’s Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day website.
