Kindergarten enrollment is an exciting time in the life of a family! At Auburn-Washburn, the enrollment process begins with Kindergarten Roundup, an event designed to introduce families to the school and staff. All families are encouraged to attend Kindergarten Roundup to learn more about the year ahead. This year, Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026. For more information and to register, visit http://www.usd437.net/roundup.

For detailed information about the entire kindergarten registration process, including a step-by-step guide, please click here.

Please note that your child must turn five on or before August 31, 2026 in order to be eligible for kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.

Thank you to the local chapter and partners of the National Association of Women in Construction for partnering with Auburn Elementary’s 4th graders to participate in the inspiring Block Kids Competition!

BLOCK KIDS, created in 1990, was designed to engage elementary students in the creative thinking and problem-solving skills used in the design and construction industries—while also introducing these fields as exciting future career paths.

Students in grades 1–6 receive a toolkit containing 90 interlocking blocks, one piece of string, one piece of aluminum foil, and one piece of construction paper. With just 45 minutes on the clock, they are challenged to design and build a mini-model of a commercial structure of their own imagination. Past creations have included schools, recycling centers, and even space stations!

After building, each student meets with a local industry volunteer serving as a “Building Inspector.” During this brief interview, students explain their design, share their thinking process, and demonstrate clarity of purpose. Judges evaluate both the creativity of the structure and the student’s oral presentation skills.

Awards are presented in each age division, and one overall winner advances to regional competition, with the opportunity to move on to the national level. While recognition is exciting, the true victory is participation—every young “contractor” receives a certificate and a goodie bag to celebrate their hard work and creativity.

We are especially proud of our 4th grade winner, Antonio, who impressed the judges with his incredible LEGO crane build. Way to go, Antonio!
