Farley Elementary, the newest addition to Auburn-Washburn, is the district's seventh elementary school. Built to help with growing enrollment, Farley was commissioned as part of a bond issue passed in 2008. Farley Elementary takes its name from Washburn University President, Dr. Jerry Farley, and his wife, Susan.
The design of Farley Elementary makes it Auburn-Washburn's first "green" school:
- Its construction includes durable masonry.
- Its low-maintenance brick and pre-finished metal exterior require no future painting.
- Where possible, materials containing recycled contents are used.
- Natural light provides the majority of its lighting; over 90% of its spaces have direct views to the exterior.
