Our Transportation Department works hard everyday to ensure that every student in the district has a bus to ride.
Using a comprehensive database to keep track of special needs, ages, and addresses our department is able to create bus routes that allow the
bus drivers to reach pick-up/drop-off points in the quickest and safest ways.
Our current inventory of buses includes 4 small lift buses, 16 buses with capacities ranging from 19 to 28 passengers, a large 66 passenger
lift bus, and 50 large 71 passenger buses. On a daily basis we have 45 MS/HS and 45 elementary routes to cover each morning and afternoon. In
addition there are 13 drivers who cover Special Services routes throughout the entire distict all day. No less than 58 drivers are required
each day to run regularly assigned routes.
Our staff of mechanics is responsible for maintaining and repairing all of these buses, the district's smaller vehicles, and all of the
Maintenance Department's vehicles. In addition, the mechanics also drive as substitute drivers when necessary as do our Transportation
Supervisor and Coordinators.
School bus safety is knowing what you can do AND what you can not do to make certain you get to school safely on the bus.
To become a safe rider, you must LEARN and PRACTICE the school bus safety rules!
School Bus Safety depends upon:
Your Driver
Your Parents
YOU - the Student
Everyone has to work together to make the bus safe!
The Auburn-Washburn USD 437 Board of Education policy states that transported students are entitled to only one designated pick-up
address and one designated drop-off address per student. The pick-up and drop-off locations may be different, but each must remain
constant.
If your child is riding home with a friend or needs to be dropped off at another location in your school's attendance area because of an
emergency, we must be notified by telephone or a note. This is required even if your child is going to be dropped off at a different
stop on his/her regular bus route.
These policies insure the accountability of students on the bus.
