March 18, 5:00 PM
I will be brief in this email to all parents but wanted to share the following five items.
First, “grab and go” breakfast and lunch sacks will be available for all students on Thursday, March 19, at Pauline Central Primary Elementary School (6625 SW Westview Road, Topeka, 66619) from 9:00 – 10:30 am. A canopy will be set up outside so students / families can pick up without entering the school. Our approach to “grab and go” breakfast and lunch for students will continue to develop, we will keep you posted.
Two, due to the fact our schools are closed to students for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, we will create a plan soon on how students can retrieve personal belongings from school and how students can return school items to school. This exchange of items is important, but students are not to be at school, so a safe and viable plan must be created. We will keep you posted.
Three, essential staff called to work this week have been working hard to create learning opportunities for students that can be implemented the week of March 23. This approach will be new to your students, and us, but it is important that begin communicating with your students and do everything possible to keep them engaged educationally. Additional information will be sent to you soon on our approach for the remaining nine weeks of the 2019-20 school year.
Four, discussions have begun on critical issues such as how to proceed with seniors now and how to proceed with all students for next school year. We will provide updates on these issues, and others, as they become available. There are many important and urgent issues to resolve.
Five, please remain mindful of the following:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing.
- Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Review and follow the advice from the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
I will continue sending a daily email update to parents to keep you informed. Things continue to change rapidly and I will do everything possible to provide timely and factual updates as we continue to navigate these uncharted waters.
