March 16, 4:00 PM
To ensure clarity, this update is being sent to both staff and parents regarding the five points below.
One, our first day of “grab and go” breakfast and lunch sacks went very well. This food service will be available for students each day schools are closed to students at Pauline Central Primary Elementary School (6625 SW Westview Road, Topeka, 66619) from 9:00 – 10:30 am. A canopy will be set up outside so students / families can pick up without entering the school.
Two, our plan is to begin providing learning opportunities to students during the week of March 23. We have learned of several Federal and State guidelines that must be followed when providing learning opportunities when schools have been closed that we must work through prior to implementation. It may take most of this coming week to work through these guidelines. Students and families, please know that our teachers want to begin communicating with you sooner than March 23 but that likely will not be the case based on our current realities.
Three, earlier today Governor Kelly issued an executive order to immediately ban gatherings of 50 or more people in Kansas churches, restaurants, concerts, recreational facilities, and other venues for eight weeks to counter the COVID-19 virus. This executive order will have an impact on school-related events and activities once students are allowed to return to schools. We are currently reviewing events and activities on the school calendar and will provide more detailed information soon.
Four, we have received questions regarding safety precautions for those who have traveled recently. Because the guidance provided is updated frequently, we thought it would be best to share the following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention link that provides helpful information: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html.
Five, the daily communications we are sending to parents are also being placed on the district website on the COVID-19 page. Please encourage those that may not see our daily messages to visit the district website to remain informed. Parents can manage their contact information and preferences through their account settings in Campus Portal.
Thank you for reading these daily updates. Things continue to change rapidly and I will do everything possible to provide timely and factual information as we continue to navigate these uncharted waters.
