Weather-Related School Closing Procedure
The Auburn-Washburn School District will hold classes unless students cannot be safely transported to school.
Threatening weather conditions however, are treated seriously. When snow or ice pose a threat, a great deal of evaluation goes into the decision to hold or cancel classes.
When conditions warrant, the superintendent, director of support services, transportation supervisor, and head
mechanic will drive routes before the first bus goes out. After evaluating the road conditions the administrators meet to discuss the situation. Weather reports along with police and sheriff reports are
reviewed. Superintendents in surrounding districts are contacted to compare information.
The decision to close school is made as early as possible and will always be made by 6:00 am. The
decision to hold classes is made if, and only if it is determined that students can be safely transported to school. Parents always have the option of keeping children at home if they feel for some reason it is not
safe to transport them.
During bad weather some delays can be expected.
